A perfect couples getaway can be found at The Lodge at Woodloch. We stayed here to to celebrate our thirteenth anniversary. It’s about four hours from the Washington D.C. area so totally doable for two nights (or more). It’s a beautiful drive as you approach the mountains especially if you go in the fall as we did and can experience pretty foliage as you enter the resort. My husband found and booked this weekend away so I really had no idea what to expect. Well, I am about to tell you what to expect…a weekend of pure relaxation but also full of activity (a perfect combo if you ask me)! It was by far one of the nicest weekends away we have ever experienced. We kept saying it was like Disney for adults! Did I mention it is adults only? The Lodge at Woodloch does not leave out ANY details.
The Spa
This is an all-inclusive spa resort (even tipping is already included). Upon arriving we were checked in and the attendant was kind enough to give us a quick lay of the land. Access to the spa is part of your stay. It was by far the most gorgeous spa I have ever been in! Whirlpools, sauna, plenty of seating to relax and read a good book or to lounge while waiting on your spa appointment (booked separately). We enjoyed an amazing couple’s massage over our stay. I would highly recommend this service (another reason for booking your next couples getaway)! Any treatment here will be wonderful. They even have co-ed relaxation rooms to enjoy after your treatments. Don’t be surprised to see people wandering the resort in their plush spa robes that you will find in your room!
Aqua Garden
Beyond the spa there is an Aqua Garden complete with Hydromassage WaterWalls. Have you ever experienced this before? I never had but let me tell you – my husband and I loved this! These waterfalls just come down and massage your neck, back, etc. Amazing. There was a large indoor pool with floor to ceiling windows of beautiful views. Outside there was a large infinity whirlpool that we enjoyed over our stay. Talk about relaxing!
Activities
By far the coolest part of The Lodge at Woodloch are ALL of the activities. There is so much to do…from aerobics classes to culinary experiences there is something for everyone making it a perfect couples getaway. You will find that there are so many choices! We simply did not have enough time to do them all. There were some activities you could do anytime and my favorite was the kayaking on the cranberry bog. It was so peaceful and beautiful too. We tried to do a little bit of everything from workout classes, an introduction course to mountain biking, nature hikes and even a class about light therapy. We never felt pushed or rushed to do any of the classes…there was always something you could join if you wanted. If you did not want to do a class that was OK too. You will never meet a nicer staff. From the spa to the kayaks…it didn’t matter…everyone was so friendly and helpful. They all made you feel so welcomed and comfortable.
Dining
This being an all-inclusive resort your meals are included. There is one dining room called the Tree Restaurant where breakfast, lunch and dinner are served. Breakfast and lunch do not require reservations but dinner does. All of the meals were delicious. It was hard to decide what to eat because there were so many yummy options! Dinner is more of an experience. The meal from start to finish takes about 1.5-2 hours. It reminded us of when we would go to dinner in Italy. It’s not a hurry up and eat and go meal. We loved not being rushed. The food was all farm to table and cooked perfectly. Dinner also offered live music which we loved. The dinner menu varied each night which we liked…more options. You will NOT go hungry at The Lodge at Woodloch. Check out these sample menus! In between meals you can find fresh fruit and snacks in the lounge. If you are up for it there is always a fire going at the Lily Pad where you can roast marshmallows!
Lodging
Our room was perfect! Again, no details left out. We had a large balcony that looked over the woods and lake. We saw deer walking thru in the morning. Our desk even had a salt lamp! The bed was very comfortable. Our room had a fridge so we kept some snacks we had packed from home. We were so comfortable here.
The coolest thing about The Lodge at Woodloch is you can book your stay any time of year! In the winter instead of mountain biking they have these bicycles with snow tube/tires. They offer snowshoeing. I did love going in the Fall because the foliage was so beautiful but can imagine that every season here is beautiful in it’s own right. If you are looking for the perfect couples getaway I could not recommend this all-inclusive resort more. I really cannot wait to return…soon I hope! I will leave you with my favorite view of the weekend.
